What is timber frame?
The majority of houses built across the world are of a timber frame construction. A timber frame structure is built using a pre-manufactured timber kit. The outer walls are then constructed typically using brick and block or with modern cladding systems
Benefits of Timber Frame
There are many benefits to choosing timber frame, the main being a faster build time (timber frame has a 30% shorter and more predictable construction time than traditional brick and block) and reduced project cost. Timber frame construction is also by far the most environmentally friendly way to build, and makes a large, positive step towards tackling climate change.
Other benefits include:
- • Faster return on investment due to fast build time
• No dependency on weather conditions
• Minimal disruption on site
• Reduced waste on site
• Reduced drying out time allowing other trades to begin sooner
• Owners will benefit from low maintenance costs , e.g. lower heating bills
• Excellent acoustic performance
• Environmentally friendly to construct and maintain

Some lesser known facts about timber frame construction:
• JSP Timber Engineering’s construction methods create a dust-free environment, which can be beneficial to people with asthma related illnesses.
• A timber frame dwelling can be weatherproof within one week
• Timber frame internal walls provide better acoustic reduction than traditional masonry walls, which greatly improves domestic comfort
• NHBC states that timber frame dwellings perform better than traditionally constructed dwellings due to the closely controlled factory conditions they are produced in
• Many banks and building societies develop payment schemes for self-builders & for people wanting to build an environmentally friendly dwelling
